Learning Objectives

The expected learning outcomes are for students to have opportunities to engage in NGSS Science and Engineering Practices as follows: Asking questions and defining problems around sea level rise and coastal erosion (and the engineering of the greenhouse); developing and using models to test small scale greenhouse designs before deciding on the final product; planning/carrying out investigations to make conclusions about which plants to grow based on their ability to prevent erosion; analyzing/interpreting data from the results of their designed experiments with native plants and erosion; using mathematics/computational thinking when designing the greenhouse and monitoring data once plants are growing; constructing explanations to determine why some plants are better along coast lines to prevent erosion; engaging in argument from evidence if student experiments yield various results; and obtaining, evaluating, and communicating information with partner organizations and the community. Building stronger partnerships with community organizations is also a desired outcome.
